Meet Our Parent Bloggers!

Language Stars would be nowhere without parents like you who believe in the value of foreign language education for their kids and who want to join our mission of fostering a new generation of multi-lingual Americans.

We've invited several Parent Bloggers in Chicago and Washington DC to write about their family's experiences raising multi-lingual kids. Some will be blogging right here on The FunImmersion Chronicles, while others will be writing on their own blogs, which we will highlight here, on Facebook, and on Twitter.

Please join us in welcome our Parent Bloggers!

anna Anna Sharp lives in Lincoln Park with her husband and two young daughters. A former associate producer for Oprah.com and contributor to Shape, Men's Health, Caribbean Travel & Life, and Budget Travel, Anna enjoys writing about travel, health, and education and has published four books for children and young adults. Anna will be blogging starting very soon right here on The FunImmersion Chronicles.

carelys Carelys Hepburn is a Latino mom blogger who writes about her hobbies in her spare time: gardening, cooking, cake decoration, crafts and raising bilingual/multicultural kids. Originally from Venezuela, she now lives in the US with her Scottish stay-at-home husband and two American kids. Carelys will write about her experience at p-art-y.blogspot.com

comingsoon Cindi Simmonds is the mother of two wonderful children, whom she'll call Nick (age 5) and Katie (age 3). They have been Language Stars students for over three years. Cindi has a Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from the University of Chicago where her research focused on language acquisition. Now a full-time mom and part-time Psychology professor, she hopes her blog entries will illustrate how the principles of language development are reflected in her children's experiences at Language Stars.

courtneyson Courtney Glantz lives in the northwest suburbs of Chicago with her husband and son, L. She describes herself as a "working" mom, both in and out of the home. She has spent 9 years in property management, but her true passion lies in the kitchen, and she is obsessed with eating and talking about food. Her writing experience began by creating a blog, A Life From Scratch, that documents stories and recipes from her kitchen, and she is "beyond thrilled" that it has now given her the opportunity to expand her writing skills for Language Stars. Courtney will be blogging for Language Stars on The FunImmersion Chronicles.

comingsoon Eric Smith and his wife Crystina have a family of five children, ranging in ages from 1 to 20 years. Crystina is a native Spanish speaker, but the older children never became fluent in Spanish because of the pressures of the English-speaking world. When their daughter Leilani turned 2 they began looking for ways to supplement her Spanish speaking education, and found Language Stars FunImmersion program. Eric is a native English speaker with some Spanish education. As a software craftsman he has blogged on technical subjects at 8th light and written for Pragmatic Programmers magazine. He has also co-written a comedy review and performed in Donny's Skybox Theater at Second City.

comingsoon Kate O'Connor Hi! My name is Kate and I'm mom to Jacques who is a newly-minted 4 year-old. He just began French classes which is the impetus of starting my blog. I'm married to F Jr. In my former life I was a web programmer with an M.S. in International Economics with a minor in Graphic Design. I traveled the world and lived abroad with my family, but have settled down in the suburbs of DC. My current life is full of mostly child-oriented activities – play dates, sports classes, moms' groups activities, and a little bit of domestic travel. My goal of my blog (Il Etait Une Fois...), at this moment, is to reach out to other moms who are trying to raise their children (at least) bilingual. I've heard many, gleaned a little bit of several, studied two, but am only, regretfully, fluent in one language.

comingsoon Kelly Pilleux is a working mother of two, an immigration advisor at a local college, and a Local Childcare Coordinator for Cultural Care, living in Naperville, Illinois. Kelly 's daughter Sofia attended Language Stars for 3 years from age 18 months and is now entering the Dual Language Program in Naperville public schools. Now, Kelly will begin the journey with her 18 month old son, Andres. In addition to working professionally and being a full-time mom, Kelly is a writer and has enjoyed writing for magazines and newsletters and blogging. Growing up in a small, Midwestern town which lacked diversity, it is one of Kelly's goals to have her children enjoy the cultural diversity of Chicagoland and to promote that diversity through her writing. Kelly blogs for Language Stars at Au Pair News.

Renee Renée Mora describes herself as a homeschooling-film critic-mother of three. She lives in Northern Virginia with her husband Anthony and their three daughters Brontë, Chloë, and Carys. With an M.A. in English, Renée has been writing film and television reviews, interviews, and feature articles for PopMatters.com, "a global magazine of cultural criticism," since its inception in 1999. In 2010, she started The Mora the Merrier, to record the anecdotes, victories, and defeats of childhood for her daughters, who are much too busy rushing to grow up to take note of such things. As Renée puts it, "I write for them, so they can remember later, and I write for me, so I can hold on to them longer."

tammy Tammy Lee is the mother of 3 little ones (3 ½ and under!) from Bloomingdale, IL. She is also a part-time preschool and kindergarten teacher. Teaching is her passion, and she creates and sells her own educational materials online, presents at local conferences, and follows several teaching blogs. Her children are enrolled at Language Stars and are currently learning Mandarin together! You can follow Tammy's writings at Teacher Tam's Educational Adventures.

Please join us in thanking Anna, Carelys, Cindi, Courtney, Eric, Kate, Kelly, Renée and Tammy for sharing their foreign language learning experiences.
