Driven, committed and passionate are just three of the words that people often use to describe Leslie Levin Lancry, Founder and CEO of Language Stars. Lancry epitomizes these terms every day, leading one of the country’s most successful education companies focused on the rapidly expanding early childhood foreign language market, a company she founded in 1998.
Following her corporate stints around the globe, Lancry turned her attention back to her true passion, spreading multilingual education to as many American children as possible. Her corporate experience afforded her the knowledge she needed to learn how to scale and grow a business, and her worldly adventures helped her recognize the importance of knowing multiple languages in our increasingly global world.
Back in the U.S., however, Lancry noted that American schools continued to start language instruction after adolescence, just after the stage when the brain is hard-wired to learn language easily. Through her research, she came to value the “Window of Opportunity” for young children to learn a foreign language easily, and she committed herself to fostering a future generation of multilingual Americans by focusing on young children through Language Stars.
Lancry has been featured in print and broadcast media in Chicago and Washington, D.C. and has become a voice in foreign language education for our youth. In 2008 she was selected by Crain’s Chicago Business as one of their featured “40 under 40”. She was recently selected as one of the first winners of the Chicago World Citizen Awards by Hostelling International and is working to expand Language Stars nationwide.
Lancry currently resides in Chicago with her French husband and her two multilingual children.
