Early Elementary Programs
Language Stars offers a comprehensive, age-appropriate,unit-based curriculum for Early Elementary students.
- Our Early Elementary curriculum is organized around thematic units designed to facilitate practice of key vocabulary and functional language structures such as, "My name is...," "I live in...," "I have a...." and more.
- Each unit focuses on a unique set of vocabulary and a functional structure.
- Each unit begins with a focus on a targeted vocabulary list, and then integrates these words into a key structure over the course of the unit. For example, children might begin with fun activities to learn pet vocabulary, and then learn how to use these new words with "to have" structures ("I have two cats, I don’t have a dog,") as they engage in skits, relay races and other interactive games.
- Each unit typically lasts 5 weeks, long enough for a group to learn, reinforce and digest the key concepts through a variety of lively games and activities.
- Teachers use only the target language, supporting comprehension with dramatic gestures and facial expressions, and a variety of simple, bright visuals and manipulatives.
- Teachers reinforce key words and phrases through rhythmic chanting, and clear, simple, consistent language, using focused repetition.
- The Early Elementary Activity Book details the key vocabulary, song, and activity pages for each unit. This book, simple end-of-unit assessments, and our Student Center allow parents to follow along with their child’s progress.
